Overall experience

Finally our social engagement has come  to an end. I have learned many things about from this program. I learned that OKUs are people too. They have their funny side and their too tired to do work side too when you spend enough time with them. So, it does not really matter if our friends are normal or not, inside, we are the same. Just that they have to put up a brave face to face difficulties that the society has put up in front of them. All in all, we should see all people in the same perspective. Never judge a book by its cover.

It Doesn't End Here

While looking back, there are so many values that I have learned. The experience was meaningful and worthwhile and I managed to make new friends with the OKUs. Moreover, I achieved some leadership skills in my bureau throughout the activity. To be honest, I wasn't really familiar on how to take charge of my own bureau at first but I tried my best and thanks to my members, with their help we had done our job very well. Last but not least, this program made me learned that we should be appreciate of what we have and make use of it by helping OKUs when they need it and we shouldn't treat them as a burden but instead, as a person like us. We are no different than each other once you get to know them. It's just the matter of one's perspective. Hopefully, this program could apply to all students and other people to live fair and equal within each other and we should always continue helping people with disabilities in our daily life,

Unforgettable reader session...

As for my second reader session, which happened to be my last, on June 12, I was one of the 8 to 10 volunteers to help one of our OKU friends, Jia Hui to edit the notes that she had scanned as the notes got a lot of typing errors. Since we need to refer the real notes for the editing, we have to meet her to take the notes the night before on June 11. Because I was busy at that time, I met her the next morning to take the notes. She gave me 2 notes, so I thought, "Hmmm probably the editing doesn't take much time since she gave me two". Oh boy, I was so wrong. The typing errors was a lot! Let alone I have two notes to edit. All I thought was how can I finish my assignments on time, when can I have time to study etc etc. I had to admit, I complained..

But then when I think back, how about Jia Hui and other OKUs, who have disabilities unlike us, and they still managed to survive many obstacles without complaining while I just complained over editing notes. It hits me as I learned that it takes a lot of patience and time management to get things done on time and you know what? It was worthwhile. I also learned to appreciate what I have now and make use out of it. So I just continued editing the notes with a lot of patience and more considerate. It kind of took me a while to edit but I managed to finish it on time. Thank God! Alhamdulillah~  Before I forgot to mentioned, I get to learn new things like Sabah's cultures and  traditional musical instruments (based on chapters) since I read it while editing the notes at the same time. Quite interesting notes to read. It was truly unforgettable reader session that I ever had. =)
