Many people with disabilities have contributed to society. These include actors, actresses, celebrities, singers, world leaders and etc.. Of course there are also millions of people worldwide who may not be famous in the sense society deems famous, but still live with, battle and overcome their disabilities every single day of their lives.
Now, let me introduce a guy to you!! Terence Parkin!!
Terence Parkin won the silver medal in the 2000 Summer Olympics in
Sydney, Australia. He is from South Africa and along with his silver
medal he has won three national records in South Africa.
One of the things that makes this Olympic swimmer somewhat unique is
that he has never been able to hear a race starter's signal. Born deaf,
Terence uses a strobe light similar to a camera flash to signal the
beginning of the race.
Terence has turned his attention to cycling. In 2006, he led the South
African team at the World Deaf Cycling Championship in the USA. Along with his sporting
adventures, he and his wife established a national foundation in South Africa, Hands in Motion,
that is committed to promoting the use of South African Sign Language.
He did a great job!! How about us??
Everyone can be the one who you desire to!! Yes, you too!!
